The Children's Museum of the Pee Dee welcomes you to our new home on the web! We are extremely grateful to the Young Professionals of Florence for their generous $1500 grant which allowed us to create this fun and informational site. We encourage you to explore our webpage, and check back often, as we keep you up to date on our efforts to bring a hands-on educational museum to the Pee Dee area!
Soon, all children of the Pee Dee will have a fun, safe, educational place to go to learn and grow. This Place will be the Children's Museum of the Pee Dee. Incorporated in July 2009, the museum was founded by a group of women interested in the welfare of children and families. These women recognized a need for quality educational experiences outside of the classroom for children and families of all socio-economic backgrounds. Since its incorporation, the board has met monthly to work on realizing its vision of strengthening families and in turn, the whole community. Since receiving non-profit status in April 2010, the board has provided fun, educational activities at local events such as Art in the Park, Florence after Five, the Pecan Festival, the Walk to Cure Juvenile Diabetes, and the International Art Festival at FMU.
Children's museums are vital cultural institutions serving as beacons in a frenzied modern world. They are places that celebrate play and creativity. They provide activities that nurture family relationships, establish common ground between all people and build creative communities that improve the quality of life.
The Children's Museum of the Pee Dee hopes to be an integral part of the revitalization of the downtown Florence area. The board is currently in the process of viewing properties which will house the exhibits and programming for the museum.
